Master Builders Commercial Trade Contractor of the Year 2024
The Parker Precision team was honoured to be awarded the 2024 Master Builders Trade Contractor of the Year Award for the Brisbane region - our submission was the Yarrabilba Hotel project.
Initially, our subcontract was only for supplying and installing the unique timber trusses spanning across the hotel. However, as the project progressed, we were asked to install the doors and windows as a variation to the initial contract. Before we could even start on site, we faced a huge challenge due to Australia’s prevalent timber shortage at the time, which caused widespread delays to building projects nationwide. During our efforts to supply the timber independently, the team encountered issues sourcing beams of sufficient strength. To overcome this challenge, Parker Precision decided to form a strategic collaboration with XLam, a market leader in supply and production of engineered timber.
Coordinating with XLam, the builder, the structural engineer, and the structural steel subcontractor, the team successfully settled on Glue Laminated Beam trusses, ensuring both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. Hours of communication were invested to ensure the timber elements integrated perfectly with the structural steel. Once on-site, the first major challenge we encountered was positioning the crane correctly. Our site team made sure that the crane was accurately positioned to reach both our assembly and landing points while bearing the weight of the trusses.
We additionally faced a significant challenge concerning the timber sliding doors, specifically in working out compatible frame heights with the integrated floor-mounted sliding system. Our Project Manager, Brodie, along with our site supervisors worked closely together with the builder to ensure the measurements were perfect and there was a proper installation of each component.
The team worked tirelessly to bring the project to successful completion. Their dedication, attention to detail and commitment were evident at every stage, both on-site and in the office. The award is a well-deserved testament to the hard work, collaboration and expertise consistently demonstrated throughout this project and all of our projects.
